Annual Concert
The Chinese University of Hong Kong Chorus
Our Song, Our Voice, Our Journey
US Debut Pre-Tour Concert - A Decade's Dedication Soaring on the Wings of Song
Since the 2014 concert “Tribute to Joseph Koo”, The Chinese University of Hong Kong Chorus has been dedicated to promoting Cantonese mixed-voice choral music. They have held four concerts honoring Joseph Koo, Actors’ Family, Ng Cheuk-yin, and other local composers in Hong Kong. They have also performed twice in Taipei, and in 2019 showcased at the Taipei International Choral Festival a full Cantonese programme to an audience of 2,000 choral professionals and spectators from around the world. Since 2019, CU Chorus has released two Cantonese choral albums and published sheet music of over 30 Cantonese choral works, reaching thousands of performers, including choirs from non-Cantonese regions in North America. In 2024, they were invited to perform at “Tai Kwun Conversations” for demonstrating Cantonese choral singing techniques. The ten years of effort have been widely recognized.
“Our Song, Our Voice, Our Journey” is another celebration of Cantonese mixed-voice choral music. CU Chorus will perform all pieces in Indianapolis, USA, and hold a demonstration lecture at Butler University. 11 works, all completed in the past three years, include more than half as world premieres. Ranging from modern poetry to folk narratives, original songs to adaptations of musicals and pop songs, this concert highlights the limitless possibilities of Cantonese mixed-voice choral music.
